LO1 Original Game idea: 1 -

Genre: Open world 3D Platform game.

Narrative: You play as a Salesman called Richard Hatter who with his Pilot: Kenny finds himself on the mysterious island of Onnoff after crashing the helicoptor in a storm, helicopter being full of money they owed to the Mega Corporation: Vanilla Industries, the money also got lost in the storm. On the island he finds an ancient temple full of Energy Cores, which he decides to sell to the citizens of the island to make the money back. Hatter then learns that as soon as he leaves the island, he can never return again. Later on he realises that a heroic character collected the Cores and put them in the temple to prevent an evil, but it turns out the hero was just a mental case who stole everyone's Cores.

Objective of gameplay: You have to explore the island to find areas (or levels if you will) full of enemies to defeat, platform obstacles to overcome, and citizens to sell the cores to. However they're not all too happy about paying for the Cores they originally owned so you will need to do a favour for them to get them to buy the cores back. Each area has a helipad to broadcast to Kenny, so he can fast travel you to various parts of the island. To keep the difficulty curve in the game, there are gates that will only open until you have sold enough Cores to pass. Hatter is equipped with a suitcase that he uses to attack enemies, swing in the air to glide, when he unlocks the wheels powerup he can ride it like a skateboard, pick up objects to use for puzzles etc.

LO1 Game genre research

Platform - a game built around jumping on platforms and avoiding obstacles, 2D platformers and 3D platformers exist, example of 2D would be Donkey Kong Country, example of 3D would be Conker's Bad Fur Day. Donkey Kong Country fits this because the objective is the get to the end of the level while avoiding obstacles such as enemies, and jumping on platforms, typically over bottomless pits or hazards such as spikes. Conker's Bad Fur Day is more of a non-linear platformer so the objective usually is to collect money by solving people's problems, but the problems usually require Conker to jump on platforms and avoid obstacles.

3rd person shooter - A game built around shooting enemies in a 3rd person perspective, most known for aiming a reticle on the enemies. An example of 3rd person shooters is Max Payne. Max Payne fits the genre as the objective is to clear the levels by aiming the reticle and shooting everyone who is an enemy, otherwise you would be shot and killed.

Survival Horror - A game centered on creating an unnerving atmosphere, defeat few but incredibly powerful enemies, and sometimes solve puzzles. An example of a Survival Horror is Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem. Eternal Darkness fits this as it has an unnerving atmosphere that the player is required to stay sane in, solve puzzles about the Tome of Eternal Darkness, and defeat powerful enemies.

Rhythm - A game based on music as players are required to input in some way to the beat or tune of a song. An example of this would be Parappa the Rapper. Parappa the Rapper fits this as the objective is to press as many buttons on time as the game requires so Parappa raps on time to the beat, otherwise you would fail the level.

Adventure - A game where the player may have to explore a world, solve puzzles, fight enemies but the world is the main focus. An example of adventure would be The Legend of Zelda. The Legend of Zelda fits this as players are required to explore the enemy-filled world of Hyrule (or wherever the game is set), to find the dungeons given to the player, containing puzzles to solve and defeat more enemies.

Sport - A game where the rules of a sport are in play, such as football, tennis, basketball etc, usually containing a ball that needs to be controlled, and mostly about scoring to win. An example of this would be NBA Jam. NBA Jam fits this as it is a basketball game, a game containing a ball that needs to be controlled and a scoreboard, whichever team has the most points wins.

LO1 Game Reviews

Zero Punctuation: Minecraft (Review Mr Helliwell showed us)

1. He talked about how the game played through humour (like how suicide bomber bush monsters ruin your hard work)

2. Compared with other games (like Garry's Mod) and explained how Minecraft succeeds in comparison (your creations will be more valuable)

3. Adressed what he disliked and needed improvements on like how hard it is to find Gold when it has little use.

1. Zelda Wind Waker review by Cjszero01

OVERALL IMPRESSION
Beautiful cell shading graphics that well capture the faces in the game, liked the gimmicks in each dungeon, liked the boss and village music, dungeon formula was fun, sailing a bit tedious and boring, enjoyed taking the weapons of enemies, liked the replay value when you beat the game lets you see translated Hyrule language and the different outfits.

COMPARISON
Compared with Ocarina of Time (Zelda game before it) with the Wind Dungeon being annoying like the water Temple, typical Zelda dungeons and bosses like the rest of the series,

SUGGESTIONS FOR IMPROVEMENT
Didn't like the Wind dungeon for its music sailing can be boring, and the quest for the triforce was annoying because of how big the Sea is.

SCORE
5 out of 5.

2. Bayonetta 2 review by GameXplain

OVERALL IMPRESSION
The reviewer was very favourable toward the game, saying it was one of the best character action games ever created, really liking the torture attacks and Umbra Climax modes used by magic, the variety in the challenge modes, the easy to pick up - tough to master gameplay, and the presentation in the game.

COMPARISON
There was no comparison to any other game, not even the original Bayonetta.

SUGGESTIONS FOR IMPROVEMENT
Some of the textures in the game looked muddy and the voice for Loki wasn't very well delivered.

SCORE
"Loved."

3. Octodad: Dadliest Catch review by GameTrailers

OVERALL IMPRESSION
The review of Octodad was overall favourable toward the game enjoying the slapstick humour and absurdity found in the game.

COMPARISON
Since Octodad is such a unique game, the reviewer didn't compare it to anything else.

SUGGESTIONS FOR IMPROVEMENT
The reviewer didn't enjoy the graphical issues like when saving the game, and the translucent option being default takes away from some funny moments in the game.

SCORE
